BULL spans from a small-block residential slider up to big-block commercial and industrial units built for heavy leaves at hundreds of cycles a day: a BULL 1224 Turbo, BULL 1524 SE or BULL 20 HEA is made for a gated community entrance and will last on one. BISON sits above them for heavier industrial duty, with an oil bath gearbox. The choice is matching leaf weight and daily cycles to the model, not picking one family over the other.

Benincà publishes two limits for every BULL, a maximum tested gate weight and a maximum suggested gate length, and your gate has to fit inside both. The BULL 424 R starts at 800 lb and 20 ft. The BULL 6 MA takes 1,200 lb at 18 ft and the BULL 6 FC 1,000 lb at 18 ft. The BULL 8 MA and BULL 8 FC both take 1,600 lb at 24 ft, and the BULL 624 R and BULL 824 R take 1,200 lb and 1,600 lb at 30 ft. The chain-driven BULL 1024 FC tops the 24 V range at 2,000 lb. Above that the BULL10MA, BULL15MA and BULL20MA are rated at 2,000 lb, 3,000 lb and 4,000 lb, built for sliding gates up to 40 ft long. Those are Benincà's own figures, printed on sheets that carry the line "Information is not binding", so we confirm the sizing on site before anything is ordered.

Benincà rates the BULL 6 MA at 80 cycles a day, the BULL 6 FC at 100, and the BULL 8 MA and BULL 8 FC at 120. The 24 V DC units go higher: 200 a day on the BULL 424 R, 300 on the BULL 624 R, 200 on the BULL 824 R, and 500 on the BULL 1524 FC. That number, rather than the gate weight, is usually what decides between a residential and a commercial unit. Benincà classes the BULL 6 MA as residential, the BULL 8 MA as residential to light commercial, the BULL 1524 FC as residential to commercial, and the BULL10MA, BULL15MA and BULL20MA as commercial and industrial.

The manual release does, on every unit. The BULL 6 and BULL 8 sheets list a manual release with a key lock, so the gate can be pushed by hand but only by someone with the key. To keep the gate powered through the outage itself you need battery backup: Benincà lists it as an option on the 24 V DC BULL 424, 624 and 824, and builds it into the BULL 1524 FC. The BULL624 TURBO has a built-in battery charger and a compartment for two 2.1 Ah batteries, with a cable and bracket kit so the gate keeps running when the power fails.

The BULL 6 MA, BULL 8 MA, BULL 6 FC and BULL 8 FC all run on 115 V AC. So do the commercial BULL10MA, BULL15MA and BULL20MA, at 115 V AC 60 Hz, with a 230 V version available on request. The BULL 424 R, 624 R and 824 R take a 115 V supply, 230 V on request, and run a 24 V DC motor that Benincà describes as an operator for intensive use. The BULL 1524 FC takes a multirange 100 to 250 V supply, and the BULL624 TURBO takes 115 V or 230 V at 50 or 60 Hz.

It affects the duty cycle, which is the share of the time the motor can be running. Benincà rates the BULL624 TURBO at 60 percent and footnotes it: in extreme operating conditions, which Benincà defines as 50 C ambient at top speed with a 600 kg gate, it falls to 40 percent. That is a real consideration on a west-facing entrance here, and it is one of the reasons we size an operator on cycles and running time rather than on gate weight alone.
