Wall mount
The current wall mount: it bolts to the wall beside the torsion shaft instead of hanging from the ceiling on a rail, which frees the whole ceiling for storage or a car lift. Rated for doors up to 850 lb.

The heavy-duty wall mount for the door the 98022 is not rated for: the same side-mount layout with a bigger DC motor, for doors from 400 lb up to 1,100 lb, which is where a tall insulated double door or a heavy impact-rated door lands. LiftMaster's own name for this layout is a side-mounted jackshaft, and rates the 98032 ultra quiet and vibration free even on a tall or heavy door.

Jackshaft
The light-duty Wi-Fi jackshaft for a sectional door on a storefront, a small shop or a light commercial bay. It mounts on the jamb beside the torsion shaft and runs on ordinary 115V single-phase power. The LJ8950W is the same operator built for rolling doors, $2,200 installed.

The Maxum jackshaft for rolling steel and heavy sectional doors. It drives the door from the shaft, with a release chain built in so the door can still be opened by hand in a power cut. Left-hand and right-hand versions, same price.

One tidy unit on the ceiling
No wall hub, no extra bridge and nothing plugged into an outlet. The smart control lives in the opener, which is why the current range looks cleaner overhead than the units it replaced.

Nobody wants to find their phone to let the dog out. The app is an addition to the switch by the door, never a replacement for it.
Belt or chain
The only decision that really matters
Everything else on the spec sheet is a variation. Belt runs markedly quieter and costs more; chain costs less, shrugs off heat and neglect, and does not care about noise. Both lift the same doors.
Same box, different drive
The 6690L belt and the 4690L chain share one housing, one camera, one LED panel and the same battery backup. LiftMaster ships a single render for both because from underneath you cannot tell them apart. The difference is what pulls the trolley.
Belt: quiet enough to sleep over
A reinforced rubber belt instead of a metal chain. Worth the difference when there is a bedroom over the garage or the garage shares a wall with the house.
Chain: the one for a detached garage
Cheaper, tolerant of Miami heat and years of no maintenance, and the right answer for the heaviest doors or a rental where nobody sleeps nearby.
What install day looks like
Fitted, tested and explained before we leave
An opener bolted up and left is how you get a callback in a month. The door gets balanced first, the safety reverse is tested in front of you, and nobody signs anything until the app opens the door from their own phone.
Balance first, then the rail
An opener cannot fix a badly balanced door, it just wears out trying. We check the springs and the balance before the unit goes up.

Safety reverse tested in front of you
Photo eyes aligned and the reversing test done while you watch. A door that will not reverse on an obstruction is not safe to use.

A dock door that will not open is payroll standing still, so commercial operators are specified by duty cycle rather than by price. Rolling steel, sectional and grille doors all take a different mounting, and we size to cycles per day rather than door width.
Sized by cycles, not by door
A residential opener on a dock door lasts months. The Maxum and Logic operators are built for hundreds of cycles a day, take loop detectors and card readers, and accept the fire door release a commercial job often needs.
Mounted to suit the door
Jackshaft on the jamb for rolling steel, trolley on the ceiling for sectional, hoist where the headroom is high. We survey the opening before quoting because the wrong mounting is an expensive thing to discover on the day.
The rail matters too
Commercial rail and trolley take the load a light residential rail will not. On a heavy door it is usually the rail, not the motor, that gives up first.

Battery backup is standard on everything we recommend. In a county that loses power every storm season, a garage you cannot open is a car you cannot move.

Still running an 8000 series?
We repair the discontinued ones too
LiftMaster has retired the 8160W, 8165W, 8365W, 8550W, 85503 and 87504 that a great many South Florida garages still run. Discontinued is not the same as unsupported: logic boards, remotes, safety sensors, belts, chains and gears are all still available and the trucks carry the common ones.
We will tell you plainly when a repair has stopped being worth it, which is usually the point where the logic board and the motor both want replacing at once. Until then, fixing the opener you have is nearly always cheaper than replacing it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a LiftMaster garage door opener or motor cost installed?
Opener and motor are the same thing, and most people in Miami say motor. It is $849 installed for the 2220L, a 3/4 HPS chain drive with camera and myQ; $949 for the 2420L, the same chain drive with battery backup added; $999 for the 6580L, a 1 HPS belt drive with battery backup and a 360 camera; $1,149 for the 6690L belt drive and $1,349 for the 4690L heavy-duty chain drive, for a wide or insulated door; $1,499 for the 98022 wall mount, which bolts beside the door and frees the ceiling; and $2,099 for the 98032 heavy-duty wall mount, rated for doors up to 1,100 lb. Those are fitted prices with the old unit taken away, the safety sensors set and the remotes and keypad programmed before we leave, not box prices. If the opener you have is under about ten years old and only one component has failed, repair is quoted after diagnosis and is usually the better value.
Belt or chain?
Belt if the garage is under a bedroom or the house is attached, because it is markedly quieter. Chain if the garage is detached or the door is heavy, because it costs less and does not care about noise.
Is battery backup worth it in Florida?
Yes, and in some jurisdictions a new opener has to have it. A garage door with no backup and no power is a door you have to release manually and lift by hand, which is the last thing you want the day before a storm.
What is a wall mount opener?
It bolts to the wall beside the torsion shaft rather than hanging from the ceiling on a rail. It frees the whole ceiling for storage or a car lift, and it is quieter again than a belt.
Can you fit an opener to my existing door?
Usually, yes, provided the door is balanced and the springs are sound. We check the balance first, because an opener fitted to an unbalanced door burns out.
Is my old LiftMaster still supported?
Probably. LiftMaster has discontinued the 8000 series that many South Florida homes still run, but parts, logic boards, remotes and safety sensors are still available and we carry the common ones. We will tell you honestly when a repair stops making sense against a new unit.
What does LiftMaster error code 4-1 mean?
The opener sensed more force than it should need while closing, so it stopped and reversed to be safe. That is usually not the opener's fault. Dry or worn rollers, a track knocked slightly out of line, or a spring that has lost tension all make the door drag, and the opener notices before you do. LiftMaster's own advice for a repeating 4-1 is to have a dealer look at it. We are one, and it is usually a same-day diagnosis. Call (786) 315-9238.
What is the LiftMaster 84602?
A chain drive opener with dual LED lighting and battery backup, controlled and monitored through the myQ app from anywhere. It is the chain drive our warranty comparison uses as its example: lifetime on the motor, but one year on the chain and one year on the other parts, against the lifetime belt and five year parts cover a belt drive carries.
What is myQ and does it cost anything?
myQ is LiftMaster's smartphone control: open, close and see the door state from your phone, and get an alert if it was left open. Basic control is free; some extras such as camera video storage are a paid subscription. We set it up on the day and hand you a working app before we leave.
