Three-car garage doors installed on a modern South Florida home

Insulation tiers, and what the R-value actually buys you in Miami

An uninsulated door in a South Florida garage is a wall of hot metal facing the afternoon sun, and if the garage shares a wall or ceiling with the house, the air conditioning pays for it all summer. Insulation is also what makes a door quiet, and on a three-layer door it is part of what makes the section stiff enough to take a wind rating. These are the tiers we fit, highest to lowest.

R-values are the manufacturer's own, calculated for the door section in accordance with DASMA TDS-163. A door section R-value is not the same as an installed whole-door figure, and no manufacturer's number accounts for the gap under an unsealed door.

For an attached garage in Miami we normally point people at R-18.4 and up, because that is where a polyurethane core starts and where the difference is something you can feel standing in the garage in August. R-6.5 and R-9.0 are worth having over nothing at all on a detached garage. A single-layer door with no rating is only sensible where the garage is genuinely outside the cooled envelope.

Our Garage Door Brands

We are proud authorized dealers for the top residential garage door manufacturers in the industry. Every door we install meets Florida building codes and hurricane wind load requirements.

Popular Collections

The collections we install most often across Miami-Dade and Broward, every one hurricane impact approved, priced as an installed starting price for the smallest standard configuration.

Understanding Door Construction

Choosing the right construction type affects energy efficiency, noise reduction, durability and hurricane protection for your South Florida home.

Single Layer (Steel)

Heavy-duty exterior steel construction. Durable, reliable and low maintenance. An economical choice that still meets Florida wind code requirements.

Double Layer (Steel + Insulation)

Steel exterior with polystyrene thermal insulation and vinyl backing. Energy efficient with quiet operation. R-value up to 6.64 for improved climate control.

Triple Layer (Steel + Insulation + Steel)

The premium choice: heavy-duty exterior and interior steel sandwiching polyurethane insulation. Superior energy efficiency with R-values up to 20.4 and ultra-quiet operation. Ideal for South Florida’s climate.

Florida Hurricane Wind Code Compliance

In South Florida, garage doors must meet strict wind-load requirements. Miami-Dade County and Broward County require impact-rated doors capable of withstanding wind speeds up to 180+ MPH. Our hurricane-rated garage doors are certified to meet or exceed all local building codes, including High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements.

Wind-load ratings range from WP1 (60-124 MPH non-impact) to WP9i (170-180 MPH impact). We help you select the right wind-code rating based on your location, door size and local building requirements.

Miami-Dade Approved

All our doors meet Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptance (NOA) requirements for the hurricane impact zone.

Impact Resistant

Impact-rated options available with wind speeds up to 185+ MPH for maximum hurricane protection.

Energy Efficient

Insulated doors reach R-20.4 with a foamed-in-place polyurethane core, which cuts what the garage adds to your cooling bill and keeps the door quiet.

Expert Installation

Factory-trained technicians ensure every installation is code-compliant and built to last.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which garage door brands do you install?

We are a factory-authorized dealer for Clopay, Amarr, Haas and Raynor garage doors, and for LiftMaster openers. Authorized dealer status means genuine parts and real manufacturer warranties rather than generic substitutes.

How long does a new garage door installation take?

A standard residential door is usually a single-day installation once the door has arrived. Lead time on the door itself depends on the model and finish you choose, which we confirm in the written quote.

What size garage door do I need?

Single-car doors are typically 8 or 9 feet wide and double-car doors 16 feet, but South Florida homes vary and headroom matters as much as width. We measure on site during the free estimate rather than working from standard sizes.

How much does a 16x8 garage door cost in Miami?

Installed starting prices from our verified hurricane impact rated catalog: Clopay Classic Steel from $2,100, Amarr Heritage from $2,450, Haas from $2,500, designer faux-wood doors from $9,850 and full-view glass from $8,550. A double-car door in the same line costs more than a single, and in Miami-Dade the wind rating moves the price more than the brand does. The exact figure follows a free on-site measure, in writing.

How much does an insulated garage door cost in Miami?

Installed starting prices from the same hurricane rated catalog: Clopay Gallery Steel, insulated steel, from $2,700; the Haas 2400 series, which is the heavily insulated one and the quietest door in the range, from $2,500; the Haas 600 series with a 1-3/8 inch polyurethane core and a thermal break from $3,150; and the insulated steel Coachman from $6,750. Insulation typically adds $350 to $1,250 over the same door uninsulated, depending on whether it is two layers or three. The exact figure follows a free on-site measure, in writing.

How much is a single-car garage door, 9x7 or 10x7, installed?

A single-car door in Miami-Dade runs about $1,200 to $2,500 installed depending on the model and the wind rating, against $2,000 to $4,500 and up for a double. Our entry point is the Clopay Classic Steel from $2,100 installed, hurricane impact rated. A 10x7 costs a little more than a 9x7 in the same line, but the wind rating your opening has to meet moves the price further than the extra foot does.

Insulated or non-insulated in Florida?

Insulation helps most if the garage is attached, air-conditioned, or used as a workshop or gym. It also stiffens the door and cuts noise. For a detached, unconditioned garage the payback is smaller.

Do you remove and dispose of the old door?

Yes. Removal and disposal of the existing door and hardware is part of a replacement installation.

Do you offer financing on a new door?

Yes. Financing is available so a new door can be paid over time. Ask when you call and we will go through the options for your job.
