Puerto Limon and Moin, then up to the Central Valley

Our Costa Rica lane runs to Puerto Limon on the Caribbean coast, where the Moin container terminal handles most of the country's Caribbean cargo. There is no minimum ocean charge on it, so freight follows the size of the shipment.
Most projects are not at the port. San José, Heredia, Alajuela and Cartago are a truck ride up from Limon, and your forwarder or customs agent arranges that leg. If the site is on the Pacific side, say so and we will tell you whether Limon still makes sense.
What your written quote covers
One written quote for Costa Rica, in US dollars: the doors, crating in Miami, delivery to your forwarder and ocean freight to Puerto Limon. Duty, taxes and customs at destination are yours. The crate sizes, the terms and every port we quote are on the export page.
CAFTA-DR and the country of origin

Costa Rica is a CAFTA-DR country, so goods made in the United States can enter at a reduced or zero duty rate when they meet the agreement's rules of origin and the importer claims it. Not everything we sell is made in the US, so ask for the country of origin of each item when you request the quote and your customs agent can work out what applies.
Your agent files the import in Costa Rica's customs system, run by the Servicio Nacional de Aduanas. We supply the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin they need, with the product approval papers for any wind rated door.
Earthquakes set the structure, the door still has to fit

In Costa Rica the structural question is usually seismic, not wind. The Código Sísmico governs the building, and a door is fixed to a header and jambs that your engineer has already designed for it. Send the rough opening, the headroom and the side room and we match a door and a lift type to them.
Wind still matters on the Caribbean side: Hurricane Otto crossed into northern Costa Rica in 2016. If the building is exposed, ask for a wind rated model and we quote both so you can compare.
What you handle in Costa Rica

Frequently asked questions
Do you ship garage doors to Costa Rica?
Yes, to Puerto Limon and the Moin terminal. We crate the doors in Miami and deliver them to your forwarder (FCA Miami). Your written quote covers the doors, crating, delivery to the forwarder and ocean freight. The written quote comes by email within one business day, or right away when the doors are in our price book.
Do US made garage doors enter Costa Rica duty free?
They may, under CAFTA-DR, if they meet its rules of origin and your importer claims the preference. It depends on each item's origin and classification, so ask us for the country of origin with the quote and let your customs agent confirm the rate.
Can the doors go straight to San José?
Our lane ends at Puerto Limon. Your forwarder or customs agent arranges the truck from the port to San José or wherever the site is, and clears the goods on the way.
Do I need a wind rated door in Costa Rica?
Usually the governing load there is seismic, not wind, but on the Caribbean coast and on exposed sites your engineer may ask for one. We can quote a standard and a wind rated door side by side.
