Openers and operatorsAA Impact is a family-owned and operated company based in Miami, Florida. It designs and builds impact glass garage doors here.
The frame is 3 inches thick, built for durability and security. Each series is listed as compatible with low headroom, standard and high-lift track, so headroom is usually solvable.
Because it is heavy. AA Impact states an impact glass garage door can weigh three to four times more than a standard door, so it runs heavy-duty 3 inch tracks and rollers to eliminate the risk of the door rolling off.
The 12 foot Series 1200 goes to a maximum of 12 feet 0 inches wide by 16 feet 3 5/8 inches tall. One lite is the standard option up to 12 feet wide; over 12 feet the standard is two lites, with three and four lite layouts as custom options.
There is not one. AA Impact publishes U-factor, SHGC and VLT rather than R-value, which is the right set of numbers for a glass product. Across the 15 glass builds and four door sizes on their sheet the U-factor runs from 1.03 to 1.14, and at the NFRC 84 inch by 84 inch reference size it is 1.07 to 1.14. A full view door is bought for daylight and impact rating, not for insulation.
The gray outer lite with a clear inner lite carrying an SB70 coating on surface 3. AA Impact rates that build at a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.20 against 0.52 for plain clear laminated glass, and it is the lowest SHGC of the 15 builds on their sheet. Its U-factor is 1.13 at the NFRC size.
Three laminated compositions. The 5/16 inch build is 1/8 inch heat strengthened glass, a 0.090 inch PVB interlayer and 1/8 inch heat strengthened glass. The 7/16 inch build is the same with 3/16 inch lites. The 13/16 inch insulated laminated build adds a 3/8 inch air space and a 5/32 inch tempered lite. All of them are held with a minimum 9/16 inch glass bite.
Tints are clear, bronze, grey, double grey and green, and every tint is available in low-e. The laminated interlayer comes in clear and gray, both see through, and in black and white, both privacy.
Bronze, white, black, silver, and two wood grains, walnut and java.
It is built to. AA Impact fits a double gasket seal designed to eliminate air and water infiltration, plus extrusion end caps that seal off the open cavities in the door frame, which also cuts noise and air leakage.
14 gauge galvanized steel. The door uses double hinge roller carriers, placing two hinges at each roller instead of one.
6063-T6 aluminium, for the top and bottom rails, the vertical stile, the intermediate rail, the divider stile, all three glass stops and the jamb seal. Doors wider than 12 feet also carry a 6063-T6 rail stiffener the 12 foot door does not need.
