Puerto Cortes, the main Caribbean port of Central America

Three dark brown single car garage doors in a row under a barrel tile roof

Our Honduras lane runs to Puerto Cortes, the country's main port and one of the busiest on Central America's Caribbean coast. There is no minimum ocean charge, so freight follows the size of the shipment, worked out per revenue ton on your written quote.

San Pedro Sula and its industrial parks are a short drive inland, and Tegucigalpa is a longer haul. Your forwarder or customs agent arranges the truck from the port; tell us the city on the request.

Your written quote

What your written quote covers

One written quote for Honduras, in US dollars: the doors, crating in Miami, delivery to your forwarder and ocean freight to Puerto Cortes. Duty, taxes and customs at destination are yours. The crate sizes, the terms and every port we quote are on the export page.

Rolling steel for plants and warehouses in the Sula Valley

Two mahogany single car garage doors at a two storey home with a brick paver driveway

Most Honduras orders are commercial: rolling service doors, insulated sectional dock doors and the operators that drive them, for manufacturing plants, bonded warehouses and distribution buildings. Send the opening sizes, how many times a day each door cycles and whether it is hand chain or motor operated, and we match the door, the spring cycle rating and the operator.

A door that runs all shift needs high cycle springs and a continuous duty operator. Specifying that at the start costs less than replacing springs rated for a house after the first year.

Heat, flooding and hurricane season

Hurricane Mitch flooded the Sula Valley in 1998, and Eta and Iota did it again in November 2020, two weeks apart. For buildings on low ground, a galvanized steel curtain, a good bottom seal and a motor mounted high on the wall stand up to water and humidity better than the cheapest option.

If the building also has to resist wind, ask for a wind rated model. Each ships with its product approval documents, and your engineer decides whether they satisfy the local reviewer.

What you handle in Honduras

Import duty, sales tax (ISV), customs clearance and delivery from the port are yours, and Aduanas Honduras clears the goods. Honduras is a CAFTA-DR country, so US made goods can qualify for a reduced or zero duty rate if they meet its rules of origin; ask us for each item's country of origin and let your customs agent confirm what applies.

We supply the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Quotes and invoices are in US dollars, and you can deal with us in Spanish throughout.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Do you ship rolling steel doors to Honduras?

Yes, to Puerto Cortes. Rolling service doors, grilles, sectional doors and their operators ship crated to your forwarder in Miami (FCA Miami), and your written quote covers the doors, crating, delivery to the forwarder and ocean freight. The written quote comes by email within one business day, or right away when the doors are in our price book.

Can you deliver to San Pedro Sula?

Our lane ends at Puerto Cortes. Your forwarder or customs agent trucks the goods to San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa or the site and clears them on the way.

What doors suit a plant that runs around the clock?

Doors with high cycle springs and a continuous duty operator. Tell us how many times a day each door opens and we size the springs and the motor for that, rather than for a light duty door.

Who pays import duty in Honduras?

The buyer. US made goods may qualify for CAFTA-DR treatment, but the rate depends on each item's origin and classification, so confirm it with your customs agent before you order.
