Standard, wind rated or HVHZ
The door an opening needs depends on where it is, not on how big it is. Miami-Dade and Broward form the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, or HVHZ: there, an exterior door has to be approved for the wind pressure the engineer calculates for that opening, and the approval is checked at the permit counter. Outside those two counties the rule is a wind load rating that meets the Florida Building Code for the site.

Why two HVHZ prices: a single HVHZ door is priced exactly like the same 24 gauge curtain on our rolling doors page, because it is fitted the same way, to its own opening and often with a hood, chain hoist or motor. The row price is for ten or more push up storage doors with no hood, no hoist and no motor, going into ready openings side by side, which takes a crew a few hours per door.

The door, curtain, guides, axle and springs, the latch that takes the tenant's padlock, delivery to the site and a two person crew fitting it into a ready opening. We tension the springs so the door lifts easily by hand, test it, and haul away the old door when it comes off cleanly.

New framing or steel at the opening, a chain hoist or motor on a larger door, a stuck or rusted old door that has to be cut out, and the permit where the building department requires one. For an HVHZ door the product approval goes on your quote and into the permit package.

Springs, curtains and doors that will not lock
A storage door that will not stay up, drops fast or takes two people to lift has a spring that has lost its tension or broken. We re-tension or replace it. A curtain dented at the bottom by a cart or a truck can be replaced on its own without changing the guides and axle, and bent guides, a failed latch or a worn bottom seal are fixed on the same visit. The saving is real: the factory stops charging crating on an order of ten or more, and a crew fitting a row of push up doors into ready openings spends a few hours on each one.
Does a storage unit door in Miami-Dade need to be hurricane rated?

A row of ten or more storage units takes the same 24 gauge curtain as a push up door with no hood, no hoist and no motor, into ready openings side by side, so the crew spends a few hours per door instead of most of a day.
Can you repair a storage door instead of replacing it?
