Does a garage door on the Texas coast need a windstorm inspection?
Properties in the 14 coastal counties and in the part of Harris County east of Highway 146 are in a designated catastrophe area, according to the Texas Department of Insurance. Work there is inspected by a TDI windstorm inspector or by an appointed Texas licensed professional engineer, and a completed job earns a WPI-8 certificate of compliance.
TDI calls the WPI-8 the proof of eligibility for wind and hail coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. A garage door is one of the parts of the building the inspection looks at, so pick the door with the inspector in mind and ask which product documents they accept before you order.
What paperwork comes with a wind rated door for Texas?
Each wind rated door goes with its product approval documents, its installation drawing and its design pressure rating, and the door itself carries the maker's label. TDI publishes product evaluations that inspectors and engineers use to check that a product meets its windstorm specifications; your engineer or inspector decides which evidence they accept for your job.

How does a freight quote work?

Send the width and height of each opening, the headroom and side room, and whether you want a wind rated or a standard door. A photo of the opening helps.

3. Crated and shipped
When you approve it, the doors are pulled from stock or made to order, crated on a pallet and sent by LTL freight to your address, or to the carrier's terminal near you if you would rather collect. A big project can go as a full truckload.
4. You or your installer fit it
The door arrives with its hardware and installation instructions, and the wind paperwork when it is rated. Your own installer fits it. We install only in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe County.
Which openers and accessories can I buy online and have shipped?
These can be bought online: the supply price plus shipping to your zone, from each one's shop page. Doors cannot; they are quoted first. We do not ship online to Alaska, Hawaii or territories.
